ROLE PURPOSE: Nafasi za kazi Shirika la Save the Children
The Business Development Manager (BD Manager) will work to identify donor opportunities, facilitate and participate in donor, member, government, and partner engagement, lead the development of fundraising strategies, and coordinate proposal development for funding opportunities.
Recognizing that many conversations with donors and members involve a review or update around current grants as well as discussions about new opportunities, the BD Manager will also be expected to keep closely informed about the progress of all major institutional and non-institutional grants and be able to speak to results in key reporting documents.
The BD Manager will be located in Dar es Salaam. The role has an external orientation but works closely with the Awards department for interaction with other members of Save the Children International who provide programme funding.
SCOPE OF ROLE:
Reports to: Director of Programme Development and Quality
Dimensions: Save the Children has been operational in Tanzania since 1986, providing support to children through developmental and humanitarian relief programs delivered in support of Government of Tanzania priorities and policies, both directly and through local partners. Current programming focuses on child protection, child rights governance, education, nutrition, and emergency response.
In 2012, as part of a global reorganization process, Save the Children combined programs of SCUK, SCUS, SC Sweden, and other members to create a single operation in Tanzania. We currently have an operational presence in multiple regions across the country, employing more than 100 staff with an annual operating budget of approximately $8 million.

General Management

Development of Country Fundraising Strategies
- Lead the development and regular update of a long-term donor engagement and fundraising strategy.
- Identify, research, and disseminate information on new funding opportunities from institutional donors.
- Cultivate business relationships with external stakeholders and potential partners.
- Explore alternative funding sources such as private sector partnerships and philanthropists.
Facilitate Donor Engagement
- Cultivate strong relationships with donor agencies at regional and country levels.
- Represent the Tanzania office in donor forums, workshops, and conferences.
Facilitate and Coordinate Proposal Development
- Lead and coordinate proposal development processes, ensuring high-quality, evidence-based, and innovative submissions.
- Collaborate with technical experts, Programme Operations, Finance, HR, and other teams for proposal input.
- Ensure key programmatic elements like gender, child participation, and safeguarding are addressed.
Quality Management for Donor Engagement
- Work closely with Programme Operations, MEAL Specialist, and Awards teams to ensure quality donor engagement.
- Oversee the development of high-quality fundraising products such as capability statements and project briefs.
Capacity Building
- Identify key challenges in proposal development and recommend practical solutions.
- Conduct targeted training and coaching on business development strategies.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Master’s degree in social sciences or related fields.
- Proven track record in securing funding from major institutional donors.
- Strong proposal writing and budget development skills.
- 5-7 years of experience in both emergency and development contexts.
- Experience developing proposals for donors such as USAID, FCDO, EU, ECHO, Sida, IKEA, etc.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Cultural awareness and ability to work in diverse environments.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Fluency in English (verbal and written).
